Ranking 5 toughest QB on the Jaguars schedule in 2022
No. 2 toughest QB the Jaguars will face in 2022 – Russell Wilson, QB.
Imagine how different Russell Wilson’s career had been if the Jaguars had drafted him instead of punter Bryan Anger in 2012. Hindsight is 20/20 but Jacksonville’s decision to select a punter with a third-round selection was questionable from the very beginning. Then again, the Jags weren’t very good in the 2010s, so Wilson might have become a flop had he ended in Jacksonville.
With the Seattle Seahawks, Wilson had the chance to develop due to the presence of arguably the best defense in modern history. He was always given preferential treatment throughout most of his tenure in Seattle but his relationship with head coach Pete Carroll progressively became rocky and the two could no longer coexist, which led to his trade to the Denver Broncos this offseason.
In Denver, Wilson will play behind a solid offensive line, a luxury he didn’t always enjoy with the Hawks. Moreover, he will have a solid trio of wide receivers in Tim Patrick, Courtland Sutton, and Jerry Jeudy (if he isn’t disciplined by the league). None of them caught 60 passes nor log 800 receiving yards last year but they were catching passes from Drew Lock. They all should see an uptick in production now that Wilson is their quarterback.
Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett will craft his system around Wilson, who will be given free rein. You could make the case that he was held back in the Seahawks’ run-first philosophy, and it’s fair to wonder how he’ll fare now that he’ll be in charge of cooking.
