No. 2 former Jaguars player without a team – Calais Campbell, DL.

It feels like yesterday when the Jaguars made it all the way to the AFC Championship game back in 2017 and were one play away from facing off against the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 52. Unfortunately, they didn’t get another shot at the championship game, as former general manager David Caldwell went on to dismantle the roster in the following years.

One of those players that played a key role but eventually got kicked to the curb was defensive end Calais Campbell, who was traded to the Baltimore Ravens before the start of the 2020 season. At the time, the six-time Pro Bowler said that his production warranted a new contract but instead of rewarding one of his defensive leaders and most productive players, the Jaguars’ brass exchanged him for a fifth-round selection. However, you look at it, that was an anti-climatic end to Campbell’s tenure in Jacksonville.

The veteran defensive end is now a free agent after a two-year stint with the Ravens. Although he logged just 1.5 sacks and 4.5 tackles for a loss in 2021, he’s still pretty stout against the run and could be a solid piece in Jacksonville’s defensive line rotation. Also, the jaguars could benefit from his leadership. If this grizzled lion decides to keep playing, defensive coordinator Mike Caldwell could get one last roar out of him.
