5) Blake Bortles, quarterback, Jacksonville Jaguars
It’s no secret that Blake Bortles deserves attention during the 2015 preseason. He’s the face of the franchise, he’s the captain of the offense, how the Blake Bortles goes, so go the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Last week Bortles looked impressive. He was commanding of the offense, he had crisp passes in tight windows, his throwing motion and movement was noticeably improved, and he showed he can still improvise well.
Those are all steps forward for the young quarterback. He’ll have to prove he can do it again tonight.
While he had 30 snaps last week and was kept on to lead a scoring drive, don’t expect the Jaguars to risk keeping their star quarterback on for too long this week. The last thing the Jags need is an injured starting quarterback.
Bortles is taking big steps in the passing game and that’s critical for the team’s success. Keep a look out to see if he lapses into some of the bad habits he had during his rookie season or if he manages to keep everything solid for this second outing. While you should keep an eye out for other players to prove worthy of greater attention, keep your other eye on Bortles.
