Good Thing We Still Have Matt Jones

AUTHOR: | IN: Jaguars | COMMENTS: None Yet

Reggie Williams is undergoing arthroscopic surgery to fix damaged cartilage in the right knee. Just like Jerry Porter, he is expected to miss at least all of preseason. Also, first round draft pick Derrick Harvey is still without a contract. “He’s falling behind, there’s no question,” Del Rio said. “It’s unfortunate he’s not here. There were some deals in front of us that were outrageous in my opinion. [That] makes it difficult to have him here. We have a belief in where we’re gonna go and we still have a belief on where it’s gonna go, and right now we’re [...]

Oklahoma Drill Draws Huge Turn Out

AUTHOR: | IN: Jaguars | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Oklahoma drill is a right of passage and an honor. Yesterday, over 3,000 Jacksonvillians (not scared away by the storms) came out to witness it. It was an exciting bout between Khalif Barnes and this year’s second round pick Quentin Groves. There were eight rounds and no injuries. Jaguars.com reports: Barnes, who is attempting to hold off Richard Collier in their competition for the starting left tackle job, used his bulk to push Groves aside on the first thrust. In the second fall, Groves used his quickness to rebound from Barnes’ initial thrust, stopping the ball-carrier between the two blocking [...]

Jaguar Day Two Training Camp Notes From The Girl Who Was There

AUTHOR: | IN: Jaguars | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Yesterday, I dragged myself out of bed around nine (far too early for a college student in summer), applied some sunscreen, put on last year’s sideline hat and headed for The Jack. When camp started at ten, the heat was already oppressive. The way camp is set up, there are three fields and the offense is furthest away from the fans.  The middle field has the defense and the closest one has three dudes chilling out (also known as special teams). You can get closer to the offense but with my girl crush on our kicker, I was happily staying [...]

With Camp Started, Jaguar News Explodes

AUTHOR: | IN: Jaguars | COMMENTS: None Yet

I woke up this morning with a ton of Jaguar news to digest so I am going to take a leaf out of my Tampa Bay counterpart‘s book and give it to you in a digest form: With all the moves made in the off season, expectations are high for the Jaguars: “Anytime you pick a rising team in the same division as Indianapolis and in the same conference as New England and San Diego, you’re asking for trouble. But the Jaguars have the best chance of any team in the AFC to break through and be better than the [...]

Matt Jones Holds Press Confrence, Says He Is “Embarrassed” Over Arrest

AUTHOR: | IN: Jaguars | COMMENTS: None Yet

Today is the first day of training camp and to the shock of most fans, Matt Jones is expected to be there. Derrick Harvey, this year’s first round draft pick, is the only person who is not going to be there. Yesterday, Matt Jones held a brief press conference to address his arrest. “I’ve talked to Wayne (Weaver). I put myself in a situation that isn’t good and I’m embarrassed for Wayne and Mrs. Weaver and Jack Del Rio and even the fans of Jacksonville.” He also assured the public that he does not have a drug problem. There’s not [...]

Groves Signed To Contract, Harvey Still Holding Out

AUTHOR: | IN: Jaguars | COMMENTS: None Yet

With Jaguars reporting to camp today, Quentin Groves is coming in as a true member of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Derrick Harvey is the only unsigned rookie left. Groves agreed on a deal that will pay him 3.3 million that includes a 1.35 million signing bonus. Jack Del Rio expressed optimism earlier in the week about signing Harvey, but on Thursday the Jaguars’ coach said there is “nothing [new] to report” regarding the status of the negotiations. Harvey’s agent, Ken Kremer, didn’t return calls Thursday. Harvey is not the only first rounder to remained unsigned. In fact, only 11 teams have [...]

Jaguar Game By Game Season Prediction

AUTHOR: | IN: Jaguars | COMMENTS: None Yet

Week 1, September 7: Jacksonville at Tennessee — Win It is always good to start of the season with a division rival, especially the one that gets more scorn from Jaguar fans than any of the others. Jeff Fisher’s “playing at Jacksonville is like playing at home” comment still gets my black and teal blood boiling. This is the chance for the Jaguars to come out swinging. With Vince Young’s performance being a total question mark, there is a chance for rookies Groves and Harvey to practice their pass rush in the big league. The Jaguars must win this to [...]

Quinn Gray Now With Colts

AUTHOR: | IN: Jaguars | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

The Jaguars let Quinn Gray go because he hoped that he could go find a starting position somewhere else. There were no ill feelings and most Jaguar fans wished him luck. He was a good backup for the Jags and if he could find a spot to be a star, he deserved it. Unfortunately, no one was really looking for a quarterback like Gray. However, Gray didn’t go into limbo like Leftwich. He began making his rounds in the AFC South. He was signed with the Texans but then cut shortly after. I believe the claim was that he just [...]

Crafting Up The NFL

AUTHOR: | IN: Jaguars | COMMENTS: 15 Comments

Believe it or not, I am a lady. Despite my high intake of football and general love of sports and video games, I still have overwhelmingly girly impulses. I love to bake and I am quite crafty if I do say so myself. It would only make sense that these passions would combine together in the creases of my brain to attack hard when I’m bored on a stormy Florida afternoon. Behold, the product of boredom, fabric paint and a Target t-shirt (excuse the shoddy camera phone pictures): How did I get there? I picked up some fabric paint from [...]
