No. 2 game on the Jaguars schedule that deserves a primetime slot: vs. 49ers

The Jaguars were hard to watch in 2021 and their Week 11 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers is one they would surely like to forget. Besides being on the wrong side of a 30-10 blowout, Jacksonville lost special teams ace/wide receiver Jamal Agnew for the year. On top of that, safety Rayshawn Jenkins was ejected for throwing a punch at Niners receiver Jauan Jennings.

Granted, that was a different Jaguars team, one led by the underqualified Urban Meyer. However, the loss was a display of the state of disarray they were in at the time. Jacksonville is in a much better place and they'll have a chance to prove they're one of the top clubs in the NFL when they face San Francisco in 2023.

Coming off an NFC Championship appearance, the 49ers will be difficult to beat. Although Jimmy Garoppolo is gone, Brock Purdy showed last season that he can be a capable starting quarterback. And if he's isn't fully recovered from the elbow injury he underwent in the offseason, the 49ers can then go with Trey Lance, the third overall selection in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Regardless of who gets the starting nod at quarterback, San Francisco has enough talent on both sides of the ball to make a deep playoff push next season. And they'll present the Jaguars a good test to show they can keep up with the cream of the crop.

Working in the Jags' favor is that the game it will be held at TIAA Bank Field. This is important because they showed they can travel well and win on the road. However, Levi's Stadium doesn't always have optimal field conditions, which has led to players suffering serious injuries.
