After losing to the Houston Texans before their BYE, the Jacksonville Jaguars will get a chance to get back into the win column when they play the Indianapolis Colts in Week 8. Currently, they are a 7.5-point favorite, and understandably so.
Leaving aside that the Colts have lost three games in a row, they last won a game at EverBank in the distant year of 2014. When you factor in that Indy just traded All-Pro guard Quinton Nelson and defensive tackle DeForest Buckner, it's easy to see why Jacksonville is favored to come out on top.
That said, the Jaguars aren't taking anything for granted. They expect rain Sunday, and are preparing accordingly. With this in mind, here's the injury report and the list of inactives for the divisional showdown.
Jaguars roster moves ahead of the Week 8 game vs. the Colts
Before the bout, the Jaguars announced that they've promoted linebacker Jamal Hill from the practice squad to the active roster via standard elevation.
A sixth-round pick of the Houston Texans in 2023, Hill spent the last three years with the Texans. He began this season on their practice squad but was signed to the active roster when fellow linebacker Henry To'oTo'o landed on the short-term injured reserve.
However, Houston released Hill in October to make room for wide receiver Tank Dell, who's back in action after last playing in 2024 because of injuries.
On a related note, Jacksonville didn't promote long snapper Jacob Bobenmoyer, meaning that Ross Mastiscik will be back in the fold after leaving the Week 5 win over the Philadelphia Eagles with a shoulder injury and sitting out the following game.
Jaguars injury report vs. the Colts in Week 8
The Jaguars included several players on their injury report ahead of the divisional bout. Nearly all of them were limited participants in practice but were still cleared to play. However, safety Antonio Johnson has been ruled out. The fourth-year pro suffered an ankle injury in the loss to Houston and didn't practice ahead of the Colts game.
Given that the Jags will face off against the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday Night Football, just four days after the Indianapolis game, they may be bringing Johnson along slowly. On the other hand, Jacksonville will get cornerback Montaric Brown back against Indianapolis.
Brown missed the games in Weeks 4 and 6 and barely played against the Eagles. With Jarrian Jones struggling in recent weeks, Brown could replace him in the boundaries opposite Travis Hunter. Similarly, Jaylon Jones could make his debut for the Jags after signing with them in October.
Jones has been dealing with a lingering hamstring injury that he originally suffered in the preseason. In fact, the injury was the reason the Chicago Bears kicked him to the curb on cutdown day. He could have a reserve role against the Colts if he's active for the game.
On the Colts sideline, wide receiver Anthony Gould and cornerback Justin Walley have been ruled out, while linebacker Bryce Boettcher and tight end Drew Ogletree are listed as questionable.
Jaguars inactives vs. the Colts in Week 8
Here are inactives for today's game:
- CJ Williams, wide receiver
- Albert Regis, defensive tackle
- Wesley Williams, defensive end
- Jamal Hill, linebacker
- Antonio Johnson, safety
- Alijah Huzzie, corner
In past weeks, Jalen Huskey, CJ Williams, Albert Regis, and Wesley Williams have been inactive. There's a chance all four won't suit up against Indianapolis.
Antonio Johnson has also been ruled out, so he'll be inactive. That's five players. Given that Jamal Hill was promoted for Week 8, the Jags will have six inactives.
