The Jacksonville Jaguars lost long snapper Ross Matiscik to a shoulder injury early in the Week 5 game against the Philadelphia Eagles. The good news is that DaVon Hamilton was able to fill in for him. That said, Ham was from perfect, which is why the Jags are bringing in reinforcements against the Houston Texans.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Jacksonville is signing Jacob Bobenmoyer as their long snapper for Week 6, adding that Matiscik won't land on the Injured Reserve list.
As of this writing, the team hasn't announced the move, but it may be a matter of time before it does. Knowing that, it's fair to assume that Bobenmoyer will land on the practice squad rather than the active roster, based on Rapoport's update.
The Jaguars are signing Ross Matiscik to be their long snapper in Week 6
Jacob Bobenmoyer went undrafted in 2019 and signed with the Denver Broncos but wasn't able to make their 53-man roster. However, he signed with them the following year and went on to spend three seasons in Mile High. The former Northern Colorado Bear then bolted for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2023. He also spent three years with the Raiders and didn't have a team before signing with Jacksonville this season.
The news that the Jags won't be placing Ross Matiscik on IR may be a sign that Bobenmoyer's stint with them will be brief. Once they're done playing Houston, they'll have their BYE, and their next game won't be until November 1st.
For the sake of the argument, let's say that Bobenmoyer is signed to the Jacksonville practice squad. He can be elevated on game day three times before he needs to be signed to the active roster. The Jaguars could promote him against the Texans in Week 6 and in two games after their BYE.
When you add it all up, Matiscik should be back with the team at some point in November.

Jacob Bobenmoyer will give the Jaguars stability at long snapper
Everybody likes to see linemen do non-linemen things, whether it's running with the football or snapping it. Heck, DaVon Hamilton deserves praise for stepping in as the long snapper without much practice. But precisely because long snapping isn't a walk in the park, the Jags made the right call by signing Jacob Bobenmoyer.
Keep in mind that the Jaguars are currently in London, so they couldn't work out anyone else. Moreover, they had to sign someone with a valid passport, so they must have signed Bobenmoyer based on what they saw on tape.
Either way, long snapping shouldn't be once again the talk of the town in Week 6, unless something goes wrong. But with Jacob Bobenmoyer, the odds of that happening should plummet substantially.
