No. 4 Jacksonville Jaguars player who might not return: JaMycal Hasty, RB

Throughout most of training camp, it looked like the No. 3 running back spot would come to either rookie Snoop Conner or veteran Ryquell Armstead. In the end, Conner came on top and it looked like he was going to start the regular season behind James Robinson and Travis Etienne but then, the Jaguars’ brass signed JaMycal Hasty.

After going undrafted in 2020, Hasty signed with the San Francisco 49ers, where he spent his first two NFL seasons. He was waived during the final round of roster cuts before the start of the regular season and was promptly picked by Jacksonville. While the former Baylor Bear started the year behind Robinson and Etienne, he moved up the depth chart when the Jags traded Robinson to the New York Jets.

Hasty appeared in all 17 games and had 46 carries (all of them after Week 4) for 195 yards with two touchdowns. His best run of the season came against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 6, when he broke off a 61-yard touchdown. If you’re keeping track, that’s nearly one-third of his total production in 2022.

All things considered, Hasty is a solid role player but Conner could see an uptick in playing time, and general manager Trent Baalke won’t pass up the chance to upgrade their running back room if there’s an enticing prospect in the third or fourth round of the 2023 draft. This could in turn hurt Hasty’s chances of making the roster next season.
