General manager Trent Baalke has spent the last two seasons replenishing the Jacksonville Jaguars’ roster and he’ll need to continue adding talent in 2023 if they want to return to their playoffs next offseason.

Baalke’s 2022 free-agent class was a big reason the Jags finished 9-7 and made the playoffs. Players such as tight end Evan Engram wide receiver Christian Kirk and linebacker Foyesade Oluokun had a huge impact last season but there were other lesser-name players that went on to fill in important roles.

Having said that, there are a handful of players that landed in Jacksonville last offseason that might not return in 2023 for cap or performance reasons. With that in mind, here are five first-year Jaguars who might not return next season.

No. 5 Jacksonville Jaguars player who might not return: Tevaughn Campbell, CB

The Jaguars claimed cornerback Tevaughn Campbell off waivers last October and he went on to appear in five games and play 31 snaps. Not bad for a player that went undrafted in 2015 and had to play in the Canadian Football League to have a shot in the NFL.

Campbell signed with the New York Jets in 2019 but didn’t play a single snap for them. He then spent time with the Los Angeles Chargers and the Las Vegas Raiders before landing in Jacksonville. However, he might be one-and-done with the Jaguars if the front office makes upgrades to their cornerback group in either free agency in the draft.

Despite the fact that the Jaguars made several additions to their cornerback room last year, they will need to keep replenishing the unit in 2023. They have a couple of studs in Tyson Campbell and Darious Williams but they don’t have much depth behind them.

Moreover, the Jags are in need of cap space, and releasing veteran Shaquill Griffin would give them relief. On the other hand, moving on from Griffin would leave them thin at cornerback, which could increase Campbell’s odds of sticking around. Then again, there’s an equal chance he walks away in the offseason, as he didn’t do much of note last season.
