Wide receiver Zay Jones was one of the Jacksonville Jaguars’ biggest signings in free agency and he’s having an impact against the Los Angeles Chargers. In the second quarter, Jones scored the Jags’ first touchdown of the game.

Neither team managed to score in the first quarter. But things then took a turn in the Jags’ favor. They made a field goal to begin the second quarter. Then the defense registered a couple of takeaways, an interception by rookie linebacker Devin Lloyd and a forced fumble by Dawuane Smoot. The Jaguars got a field goal out of Lloyd’s interception and after the fumble Smoot forced that linebacker Foyesade Oluokun scooped, Trevor Lawrence connected with wide receiver Zay Jones for a 14-yard touchdown.

That wasn’t the end of it though. The Bolts answered back with a touchdown of their own, a 15-yard touchdown reception from wide receiver Mike Williams. But there was still plenty of time on the clock to score again before halftime and the Jags didn’t put the opportunity to waste.

Lawrence found tight end Evan Engram for an 11- yard touchdown pass but the play was eventually reversed after review. Still, the Jags made a field goal that extended their lead to 16-7. While a touchdown would have been better, the Jags aren’t in a position to turn their nose up at points, so any are welcomed. Here’s Zay Jones’ touchdown, his first one as a member of the Jaguars.

The Jaguars woke up in the second quarter vs. the Chargers

The Chargers are dealing with several injuries. Justin Herbert is playing even though he suffered a rib cartilage fracture in Week 2. Also, cornerback JC. Jackson, center Corey Linsley and wide receiver Keenan Allen didn’t suit up for the game. To make matters worse, outside linebacker Joey Bosa left the game with injury.

The Jaguars are taking advantage of all the injuries the Bolts are dealing with. The defense has done a good job of containing Herbert and the offense has avoided big mistakes.

There’s still a whole half left in the game but if the Jaguars keep playing the way they have, they might be able to get their second win of the season and stay at the top of the AFC South for at least one more week.
