No. 4 free agent the Jaguars can sign: Quinton Spain, OG

Quinton Spain became one of the Cincinnati Bengals’ most dependable offensive linemen during their Super Bowl run last year but that hasn’t helped him find a job since free agency started in March. After going undrafted in 2015, Spain spent the first four years of his NFL career with the Tennesee Titans. He then spent time with the Buffalo Bills before joining Cincy’s practice squad in 2020 and eventually joined their starting lineup.

The West Virginia product started nine games for the Bengals in 2020 and 16 last year, and has performed well. Last season, he allowed a respectable five sacks and 23 total pressures. Moreover, he posted a Pro Football Focus overall grade of 72.3. That kind of production should have helped him sign with a team but maybe he’s waiting for the right fit. The Jags could be one of several clubs that might end up requiring his services in the upcoming weeks.

The Jaguars’ brass expects Ben Bartch to start at left guard and there isn’t anyone on their roster that could genuinely compete with him for the job. Rookie Luke Fortner or veteran Tyler Shatley could line up at guard if needed both are projected to play center in 2022.

It’s possible that Bartch will become a mainstay of the Jaguars’ offensive line after steadily improving in the last two years. However, Spain would be able to contribute right off the bat. He could provide solid depth and even competition at left guard.
