No. 1 Jaguars player who could become a star in 2022 – Christian Kirk, WR

NFL clubs know what to expect from players once they reach a certain stage of their career. The other side of the coin is that everyone is different, and several factors — the round they were drafted in, the amount of money the team has invested in them — directly impact their success or lack thereof. That’s why you will see players really break out until their fourth or fifth season in the pros.

Wide receiver Christian Kirk wasn’t particularly bad during his four-year tenure with the Arizona Cardinals. But he didn’t produce at an elite level. On the other hand, he showed he can succeed in a featured role in 2021 and should put up better numbers this upcoming season.

A second-round pick in 2018, Kirk has never had a 1,000-yard season in his career but he got close last season, hauling in 77 receptions for 982 yards and five touchdowns last year. One reason for his success was his usage in the Cards’ offense. He lined up in the slot on a career-high 79 percent of the offensive snaps last year. Even though he will be the Jags’ No. 1 receiver in 2022, he should once again play inside often.

The Jaguars gave Kirk a four-year $72 million contract in free agency because they think he can be the weapon their offense has lacked over the last few years. Don’t be surprised if he becomes the first Jacksonville to have a 1,000-yard season since DJ Chark Jr. achieve the feat in 2019. Don’t rule out a Pro Bowl selection either.
