5 Jaguars not named Trevor Lawrence who could become stars in 2022
No. 4 Jaguars player who could become a star in 2022 – Andre Cisco, S
Most of the Jaguars’ position groups didn’t earn favorable marks heading into training camp. The one exception was their secondary, which landed at No. 19 in a Pro Football Focus’ recent ranking. Coincidentally, Jacksonville didn’t make any meaningful additions to their safety room. Then again, they didn’t have to. After all, they have a solid group.
Rayshawn Jenkins will tentatively start at one spot and he will try to bounce back in 2022 after having a down year, one in which he feels like the Jags just “worked to work“. Andre Cisco should line up next to him when Jacksonville faces off against the Washington Commanders in Week 1. The sophomore safety might have slid to the third round in the 2022 NFL Draft because of injury concerns but he showed at Syracuse that he could make plays. In 24 games, he logged 13 interceptions and 14 passes defensed.
A Jaguars defense that ranked 32nd in takeaways last season could benefit from Cisco’s presence in the starting lineup. He was the top-ranked rookie safety in the preseason but hardly saw the football field early in the 2021 season. When he finally got his chance, he showed flashes.
Cisco has managed to stay healthy and with one year of experience under his belt, he should have no trouble beating incumbent Andrew Wingard for the starting job. The Jaguars didn’t use a third-round selection on the former Orangeman just o keep him on the bench and the best way to find out what they have in him is to give him a feature role.
