No. 1 free agent the Jaguars could still sign – Odell Beckham Jr., WR

Wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. was a rising star early in his NFL career, quickly becoming Eli Manning’s favorite target during his stint with the New York Giants. He was traded to the Cleveland Browns in 2018 and while he was still posting solid numbers, he wasn’t the playmaker he was in the Big Apple.

Feeling underused and underappreciated in Cleveland, Beckham forced his way out (with an assist from his dad) and was waived in the middle of the 2021 season. He then signed with the Los Angeles Rams and became an essential piece to the puzzle during their Super Bowl run. However, he suffered a torn ACL during Super Sunday that prevented him from signing a big contract in free agency.

Beckham is currently recovering from the injury and might not be available for the beginning of the regular season but once he’s healthy he could improve most wide receiver corps in the NFL. He showed last year that he can still draw double coverage and make clutch plays, which is something the Jaguars could use this upcoming season.

The Jags signed Christian Kirk and Zay Jones in free agency. Marvin Jones Jr. and Laviska Shenault Jr. are also returning, so they’re set at wide receiver. However, they don’t have someone of Beckham’s caliber. You could make the case that Beckham is a luxury Jacksonville doesn’t currently need and that would be right. However, they can’t dismiss the idea of signing him, especially if they decide to move on from Shenault.
