No. 2 free agent the Jaguars could still sign – Jalen Richard, RB.

The Jaguars’ running back group is coming along nicely. Sophomore Travis Etienne is expected to give the offense a boost in 2022 and is poised to carry a big load. Meanwhile, James Robinson hasn’t had any setbacks in his recovery from the torn Achilles he sustained late in the 2021 season.

Rookie Snoop Conner will compete with Ryquell Armstead for a role behind Etienne while Robinson recovers. The Jaguars seem to be set at running back but there are more than a couple of months left for the regular season, and it wouldn’t hurt to add someone else to their backfield. Enter Jalen Richard. Even though the former Southern Miss Golden Eagle wouldn’t start for the Jags due to the presence of Etienne, he could become a key cog in the running game.

An undrafted free agent in 2016, Richard signed with the Las Vegas Raiders. He didn’t have a prominent role for them for most of his stint but was effective when he saw the field. Richard left the Silver and Black with 264 carries for 1,333 yards with four touchdowns. He also hauled in 191 catches for 1,590 yards and three receiving touchdowns. Furthermore, he is pretty good in pass-blocking situations, an underrated skill running backs must possess in today’s NFL.

Etienne is on track to take the field in Week 1 but the coaching staff must refrain from overworking him and bringing in someone like Richard would help them avoid that.
