No. 3 player the Jaguars could re-sign on the cheap – James O’Shaughnessy.

Tight end remains a position of need in spite of all the additions the Jags made to the group last year. Chris Manhertz, Jacob Hollister, and Luke Farell had a combined 22 receptions for 182 and two touchdowns. The team’s brass pulled the plug on the Tim Tebow experiment after just one preseason game and last but not least, Dan Arnold and James O’Shaughnessy dealt with injuries throughout most of the 2021 campaign.

Arnold still has one year left on the two-year contract he signed last offseason and he should be the Jags’ top tight end in 2022 unless the front office acquires someone like Zach Ertz or Dalton Schultz in free agency. On the other hand, re-signing O’Shaughnessy could be a low-key move that could eventually pay dividends. Injuries hit the Jags hard over the last two seasons, so it would make sense for them to invest in adding depth to their roster.

Whenever O’Shaughnessy was available, he was one of Trevor Lawrence’s most trusted targets, and based on the numbers he got, it looks like they both built a nice rapport. The Jags need to ensure their young passer has enough weapons at his disposal. After all, backups are just one injury away from taking the field, and as important as it will be for the front office to acquire difference-makers, they also need to make sure they have they aren’t caught off guard if injuries strike once again in 2022.
