No. 2 player the Jaguars could re-sign on the cheap – Adam Gotsis.

Some were surprised the Jaguars re-signed defensive tackle Adam Gotsis last offseason and this writer believed that he shouldn’t have made their 53-man roster last offseason. After all, he didn’t make many game-altering plays in 2020 and finished the year with no sacks. Of course, that take is as cold as they come and it’s silly in retrospect when you take into account that Gotsis turned into a key cog in the team’s defensive line rotation in 2021.

Last season, the former Georgia Tech Yellowjacket appeared in 16 games with four starts and logged 27 total tackles, six tackles for a loss, and three sacks. While he isn’t the kind of player that will hoard accolades, the Jags should consider bringing him back this offseason. Fellow defensive tackle Taven Bryan is also set to become a free agent and it would make sense to bring one of the two to have some continuity up front. Based on how things unfolded in 2021, Gotsis gets the nod.

A second-round pick by the Denver Broncos in the 2016 NFL Draft, Gotsis has shown throughout his NFL career that is better suited in a complementary role than a featured one. He’s carved a niche in Jacksonville and it wouldn’t be shocking to see him get a two or three-year deal this offseason. With so much turnover, it makes sense for the Jaguars’ brass to keep some of their veteran players, including Gotsis.
