No. 2 Jaguars player who needs monster offseason – Rayshawn Jenkins, S.

A fourth-round selection by the Los Angeles Chargers in 2017, safety Rayshawn Jenkins hardly saw the field in his first two years. But he worked his way up the depth chart and went on to start 31 games and log 92 total tackles, six tackles for a loss, 23 passes defensed, and five interceptions in the last two seasons of his tenure with the Bolts.

Jenkins’ work in the Chargers’ secondary helped him secure a five-year deal worth $35 million with the Jags last offseason. Of course, certain expectations come with that kind of salary and you could make the case the veteran safety failed to live up to them. He was named team captain by his teammates before the start of the season and started 14 games. However, he didn’t have much of an impact and wasn’t responsible for any game-changing plays.

To complicate matters, Jenkins was ejected in Week 11 after punching San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings. That’s simply unacceptable, especially from a player who is supposed to be a leader off and on the field. Later in the season, he fractured his ankle and missed the last three games.

Jenkins is entering the second year of his five-year contract. There’s a new coaching staff in place, one that didn’t acquire him, so he may need to compete in training camp to get his starting job back and he will need to look over his shoulders due to the presence of third-year safety Daniel Thomas and sophomore Andre Cisco.
