No. 3 Cardinals free agent Jaguars can sign – Chandler Jones, EDGE.

The Jaguars have a tough choice to make with the first overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, as there are three (maybe more) prospects worthy of the selection. If they want to pass on Aiden Hutchinson or Kayvon Thibodeau in favor of Alabama offensive tackle Evan Neal — or even Mississippi State’s Charlie Cross — they can target edge rusher Chandler Jones in free agency.

Even though Jones missed a good chunk of the 2020 season with a bicep injury, he showed he still has plenty of juice in 2021, logging five sacks in Week 1. He finished the year with 10.5 sacks and a monster Pro Football Focus pass-rush grade of 89.8. Not bad for a player who will be 32 by the start of the season and will be entering his 11th year in the NFL.

Spotrac projects that Jones will sign a three-year, $43.5 million that averages $14.5 million per season. While that’s a hefty price to pay for his services, edge rushers don’t grow on trees and the Jaguars need someone to play opposite outside linebacker Josh Allen. Dawuane Smoot did a good job of pressuring opposing quarterbacks last season but the Jags need to add someone else to their pass rush rotation. Jones isn’t in his prime anymore but should still be able to contribute in Jacksonville.
