No. 3 big-name free agent Jaguars must sign in 2022 – Dalton Schultz.

Tight end is another position the Jaguars need to address this offseason in spite of all the resources they invested in it last year. James O’Shaughnessy is slated to become a free agent, Luke Farrell is a backup at this point of his career and Chris Manhertz is better suited for pass-blocking situations.

Dan Arnold was the Jags’ number one tight end in 2021 but he’s coming off an MCL injury, so the team’s brass should err on the side of caution and sign someone in free agency. If they want to swing for the fence, Dalton Schultz is their man. This writer hasn’t hidden his affinity for the Dallas Cowboy, as he would give Jacksonville a playmaker on offense.

Mike Gesicki also hit the free-agent market but Schultz had the better season in 2021 although his yards-per-catch was slightly lower. In 17 games,  hauled in 78 receptions for 808 yards with eight touchdowns. The Jags would surely love that kind of production from the tight end position, especially when you take into account that their tight end group as a whole combined for just one trip to the end zone last year.

Spotrac projects that Schultz will get a four-year contract worth $50.7 million. Like most free agents on this list, he will most likely get a top-market deal and if the Jaguars want to sign him, they will have to fork in some serious cash but it will be money well-spent.
