No. 4 Colt that could follow Eberflus to the Jaguars – Mo Alie-Cox

You might remember Mo Alie-Cox as the player that supported Tim Tebow during his transition from quarterback to tight end last summer. However, there’s more than meets the eye when it comes to the Virginia Commonwealth product.

Alie-Cox signed with the Colts after going undrafted in 2017 and has spent his five-year career with them after re-signing a one-year deal last offseason. He’s now slated to become a free agent and it’s uncertain if he will return to Indianapolis. If the tight end hits the open market, the Jaguars need to make a run for him, as he’s better than his 2021 numbers might indicate.

Last season, Alie-Cox hauled in 24 receptions for 316 yards and four touchdowns. While he had five fewer catches than fellow tight end Trey Burton, he averaged almost three more yards per grab and had one more trip to the end zone.

Ali-Cox was the fourth or fifth option in the Colts’ passing game in 2021 but he should see an uptick in production if he gets a bigger role on offense. He’s 96th on Pro Football Focus’ 2022 top 100 free-agent rankings and is expected to get a three-year contract worth $21 million with $10 million guaranteed, which the Jags can easily afford. Last season, their front office took half measures to bolster their tight end room and they didn’t really get it fixed until they traded for Dan Arnold.

This season, the Jaguars need to get their tight end room from the very beginning. They can sign Alie-Cox and have him compete with Arnold for the starting job.
