No. 4 player who could sing swan song with Jaguars – Taven Bryan, DT.

There’s no better word to describe Taven Bryan’s tenure with the Jaguars than unremarkable. Back in the 2018 draft, the Jaguars had a chance to take All-Pro linebacker Darius Leonard, outside linebacker Harold Landry or 2019 MVP Lamar Jackson. Instead, David Caldwell opted to take the Florida product. The pick itself made sense in theory. The Jags were coming off a season in which made it all the way to the AFC Championship on the strength of their defense and Bryan would turn an already dominant unit into a juggernaut.

Alas, the former Gator hasn’t developed into the player Jacksonville envision even though he’s been given several chances. Even though the team opted not to exercise the fifth-year option on his rookie deal, former head coach Urban Meyer spoke and defensive line coach Tosh Lupoi spoke highly of him.

Bryan did have some flashes in 2021 and had a career in Week 9, logging four total pressures and two sacks. Having said that, the defensive tackle hasn’t done enough to ensure a roster spot in Jacksonville next offseason. As a former first-round pick, he will be granted more chances in his NFL career and some coach will try to untap his potential and turn it into production. It may or may not happen but keep in mind that two different coaching staffs have already tried to do so and failed.

Then again, anything can happen in the NFL, so this may not be the last time you hear of Bryan.
