Jaguars player that has offered almost nothing No. 3 – S Andre Cisco

While most of the Jaguars’ 2021 free-agent signings have had an instant impact, the same can’t be said about their draft class. Other than quarterback Trevor Lawrence, no other rookie has had a tangible impact on either offense or defense. Sure, cornerback Tyson Campbell is starting but he’s experienced a learning curve and has struggled at times. Meanwhile, safety Andre Cisco has had to ride the bench.

Heading into the season, it looked like it was going to be a matter of time before the former Orangeman earned a starting role but Andrew Wingard got the nod instead. Defensive coordinator Joe Cullen told the media both players would get playing but the rookie hasn’t seen the field much in 2021. In fact, he’s seen his playing time decrease and has appeared in just five defensive snaps since Week 3 after playing 31 in the first two games.

It’s kind of baffling that Cisco hasn’t gotten more playing time. He was a playmaker back at Syracuse, logging 13 interceptions and 14 passes defensed in 24 collegiate games. The Jags’ defense could surely use some of that playmaking prowess, as they rank dead last in the NFL with two.

It’s too early to write Cisco off though even though Wingard hasn’t been spectacular. Maybe he isn’t ready and the coaching staff wants to bring him along slowly. He could still get a bigger workload as the season progresses but the early results have been far from great.
