Jacksonville Jaguars player who must shine No. 2 – Tavon Austin

Fourth-year wide receiver DJ Chark Jr. was placed on the Injured Reserve list after he suffered an ankle fracture in Week 4. It’s now up to the Jaguars’ wide receiver corps to pick up the slack. Offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell told the local media that Laviska Shenault Jr. will have a bigger role moving forward but Tavon Austin should also see his number of snaps increase in the upcoming weeks.

The eighth overall pick in the 2013 draft joined the team late in the summer. At the moment, it looked like a depth move, but he caught eight passes for 89 yards with one touchdown in the preseason and ended up making the team’s 53-man roster. Austin was placed on IR with a quadriceps injury before the start of the season and was activated prior to Week 4. Against the Bengals, he played 43 offensive snaps but only hauled in one reception for eight yards.

Keep in mind that the veteran wide receiver hasn’t caught more than 13 passes in a season since 2017 but that could change this year. Austin is currently listed as the starting receiver opposite Marvin Jones Jr., and the Jags will need him to step up in Week 4.
