Jacksonville Jaguars: 5 questions ahead of final roster cuts
The Jacksonville Jaguars have a surplus of talented wide receivers.
2. Who will be the odd man out in the Jaguars’ wide receiver room?
The Jaguars have a “good” problem at wide receiver. DJ Chark Jr., Marvin Jones Jr., and Laviska Shenault Jr. are locks to make the team but after them, how the rest of the depth chart will look is anyone’s guess. Jamal Agnew, sophomore Collin Johnson, and veteran Phillip Dorsett are logical candidates to keep three spots. Johnson displayed playmaking prowess in his rookie campaign and Dorsett is a threat to stretch the field at any given moment. Meanwhile, Agnew will be the Jaguars’ main returner in 2021.
Unless the Jags decide to carry seven receivers into the season, there will be three players worth keeping that won’t make the cut. Laquon Treadwell has had a productive offseason after joining the Black and Teal in mid-June. Tavon Austin has also stood out and undrafted free agent Jeff Cotton Jr. shined in the preseason finale, hauling in three receptions for 66 yards and posting a Pro Football Focus overall grade of 80.2.
3. How will the running back depth chart look in 2021?
James Robinson is the Jaguars’s top running back. Had rookie Travis Etienne not suffered a season ending-injury versus the Saints in Week 2 of the preseason, he would be the number two. With E-T-N out of the picture, Carlos Hyde will now be the primary backup.
If the Jaguars keep four running backs, Dare Ogunbowale and Devine Ozigbo will likely make the cut but if they want to only carry three, who will they keep? Ozigbo had an outstanding performance in the preseason finale, racking up 11 carries for 68 yards and a touchdown. He also finished the day with a Pro Football Focus grade of 78.4. On the other hand, Ogunbowale made two starts for the Jaguars when Robinson went down with an ankle injury last season.
