How will the Jacksonville Jaguars tight end depth chart will look?

The Jaguars will be able to evaluate their tight end room in the preseason. They need to ensure they keep the best four, and that could prove to be difficult. James O’Shaughnessy is a lock to be the team and so is Chris Manhertz. The former has had a solid offseason and the latter will play a key role as a blocker in short-yardage and red-zone situations. Rookie Luke Farrell has also been a reliable target throughout training camp and may have the highest ceiling of the bunch.

Behind Farrell are Tyler Davis, Ben Ellefson, and Tim Tebow. Davis was a 2020 sixth-round selection that barely saw the field last season and has hardly made any noise in training camp. In fact, he was outplayed by Ellefson, who is also having an outstanding offseason.

Tebow is his old hard-working self and is still competing for a roster spot even though he has hit a few speed bumps in training camp. The Jaguars will probably carry two tight ends into the regular season so they might have to choose between Ellefson, Tebow, and Davis.

This is why the preseason will be key for certain players. Davis may see limited time against the Browns and if he doesn’t take advantage of his chances, the Turk could pay him a visit Monday. In the end, whoever shows the best hands will make the cut. The Jags already have a blocking tight end in Manhertz. They now need one that can be a reliable target in the passing game.
