Jacksonville Jaguars: Trevor Lawrence shines once again, Day 12 notes
Who will be the odd man out in the Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver room?
The Jaguars’ front office has a good eye for wide receivers and reclamation projects. If you thought Tavon Austin and Laquon Treadwell would be nothing but camp bodies, you weren’t alone. After all, they were first-round selections that weren’t able to get it together for whatever reason in their previous stops. Nevertheless, they both may have a legitimate shot to make the roster.
The problem is that the Jags are so stacked at the position, that Austin and Treadwell may be victims of the numbers game. Teams normally carry six receivers into the regular season and it seems like five spots are already earmarked.
The Jaguars top three receivers are DJ Chark Jr., Marvin Jones Jr., and Laviska Shenault Jr., Chark will most likely be out until the season opener after undergoing finger surgery. However, his standing on the depth chart won’t be affected, and should be back in the starting lineup as soon as he’s cleared to return. Collin Johnson will most likely get another spot, and so will Jamal Agnew, who will moonlight as Jacksonville’s primary returner.
That would leave just one more spot open, and veteran Phillip Dorsett, rookie Jalen Camp, Austin, and Treadwell will have to compete for it. Even if the Jaguars decide to carry seven receivers, which is unlikely, not everyone will make the cut. Simply, the Jaguars have a crowded receiver room and will have to make some tough choices to make. Whoever doesn’t end up in the 53-man roster will most likely be signed to the practice squad.
