Who will be on the Jacksonville Jaguars roster in Week 1?

Here’s how the Jaguars’ depth chart could look in Week 1 of the 2021 season:

  • Myles Jack
  • Joe Schobert
  • Damien Wilson
  • Josh Allen
  • K’Lavon Chaisson
  • Leon Jacobs/Dakota Allen

You may be wondering why Josh Allen and K’Lavon Chaisson are listed as linebackers. Joe Cullen’s defense will feature 4-3 and 3-4 looks, so they will play with the hand on the ground at times and line up in a two-point stance in others. Either way, they will be the top pass rushers in Jacksonville.

Myles Jack has been a staple of the Jaguars’ defense over the last five years but good as he has been in that span, head coach Urban Meyer believes he can be better. He will start next to Joe Schobert regardless of the alignment.

To round out the linebacker corps, the Jaguars signed Damien Wilson earlier this year. Although he’s far from an All-Pro, he’s a solid starter that was part of a Kansas City Chiefs team that won a Super Bowl and played in another. A fourth-round pick of the Dallas Cowboys in 2015, the Minnesota product mostly played on special teams during his tenure in Big D. However, he started 29 games, logging 154 total tackles and two forced fumbles during his two-year stint in Kansas City.

Because the Jaguars will run a hybrid scheme, they might carry six linebackers into the regular season. If Leon Jacobs is available, he could claim the last spot. If not, the coaching staff may want to see what they have in Dakota Allen.

Despite the fact the Jags’ depth at linebacker isn’t spectacular, the unit as a whole looks in good shape ahead of the 2021 season.
