Here’s another UCF corner the Jacksonville Jaguars may be interested in.

Everybody has different tastes and if Aaron Robinson isn’t the Jaguars’ cup of tea, perhaps Tay Gowan might be of their interest. A two-star recruit out of high school, he spent time at the JUCO level before transferring to UCF in 2019.

Although Gowan opted out in 2020 due to concerns about his daughter’s health, he showed he could play at a high level in his lone season with the Knights, allowing 25 yards or fewer in nine of the 12 games he appeared in, per Pro Football Focus. Furthermore, gave up just two touchdowns and batted seven passes.

In his lone season at UCF, the Georgia native ran some pro coverage concepts and showed he has the speed and the size to play in the NFL. Even though he needs to work on his tackling skills and it’s uncertain how he will fare against better competition, he had a solid pro day, registering a 4.47 40-yard dash, a 4.27 shuttle, a 35.5-inch vertical jump, and a broad jump of 9 feet, 10 inches.

While there seems to be a consensus when it comes to where Robinson will be drafted, Gowan’s could be a wild card. As James Johnson of Jaguars Wire points out, some analysts see him as a Day 2 pick while others think he could go undrafted.

If the Jaguars believe his talent will carry over to the NFL, they could use their second selection in the second round, the 45th overall, on the cornerback. On the other hand, if they like him but think they can get him later, they could target him with a mid-round pick.
