The Jacksonville Jaguars could use another pass-rusher.

The Jaguars’ defense should be significantly better in 2021 after ranking near the bottom of most meaningful categories last season. Moving on from Todd Wash and hiring Joe Cullen as their defensive coordinator was a good start. Re-signing their 2020 sack leader, Dawuane Smoot, should also help.

Then, there’s the fact EDGE defender Josh Allen should be fully healthy after dealing with a knee injury in 2020 and K’Lavon Chaisson should continue improving after finishing his rookie season on a strong note. Nevertheless, you can never have enough pass-rusher and the Jaguars should target Melvin Ingram.

Although Ingram didn’t register any sacks in 2020, he posted his best Pro Football Focus pass-rush grade since 2017. From 2015 to 2019, he started 77 consecutive games and logged 272 total tackles (60 for a loss), 43 sacks, ten forced fumbles, 20 passes defensed, and two interceptions. The Jaguars defense would surely welcome that kind of production.

Now, signing Ingram comes with injury risk. Last season, he dealt with a knee injury and that could give the Jaguars pause. On the other hand, if Jacksonville’s medical staff thinks the veteran has fully recovered or is close to it, the team’s brass shouldn’t pass up the opportunity to sign him.
