2. player. 35. . . . Desmond King, cornerback

Desmond King could become the Jacksonville Jaguars’ go-to slot corner.

This Jacksonville team found a keeper when they used the ninth overall pick in 2020’s draft to take C.J. Henderson. The Florida product took over one cornerback job and displayed flashes of playmaking prowess before a groin injury prematurely ended his season.

Heading into the 2021 season, the team’s brass should feel comfortable about Henderson holding one starting job. However, it’s less certain who will start opposite of him and who will play in the slot. Sidney Jones, D.J. Hayden, and Greb Mabin are set to become free agents, and even though the team could bring one or two back, they should use the opportunity to bring in an upgrade.

Hayden held the slot duties early but missed time with a hamstring injury, and Tre Herndon also gave it a try with mixed results. Herdon could provide valuable depth in 2021, but the Jaguars should sign Titans slot Desmond King.

Although the former fifth-round pick didn’t have much of an impact in 2020, you could argue he was playing out of position. As a member of the Green Bay Packers, he was one of the best slots in his first two years in the league. In that span, he logged 138 total tackles, 15 batted passes, four sacks, four interceptions, and one forced fumble. Furthermore, he’s a sure tackler and can cover tight ends, something that should get the Jaguars’ attention.
