Jonnu Smith, tight end. 1. player. 35. . .

Jonnu Smith is the kind of playmaker the Jacksonville Jaguars need.

Loyal readers of the B&T, first we want to thank you, and second, you might’ve noticed Titans tight end Jonnu Smith’s name has come up a few times and then some more. He’s not a favorite of the site but it isn’t a mistake either. He’s simply going to be one of the best playmakers available in the open market, and one the Jaguars should target regardless of the position.

The Jaguars didn’t get much production from their tight end room in 2020. It’s true their instability at the quarterback position hindered all offensive units. Nevertheless, Tyler Eifert was a non-factor most of the season and is no longer the difference-maker he was early in his career while veteran Jame O’Shaughnessy, who is set to become a free agent, is better suited for a complementary role.

For that reason, the ‘Jags’ should consider bringing in Smith, who has averaged 11.9 yards per reception throughout his four-year career and excels at getting yards after the catch. He could also be the red-zone threat Jacksonville’s offense lacked in 2020.

The ‘Jags’ already have a solid wide receiver corps and a stud running back in James Robinson. However, they are missing a tight end that can keep defenses honest. For that reason, they should make it a priority to sign Smith.
