Jim Caldwell could bring his success to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Detroit Lions fired Jim Caldwell because they thought his 36-28 record in his four-year tenure wasn’t good enough. In his place, they brought in Matt Patricia and quickly realized the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.

Even though Patricia’s expertise was on the defensive side of the ball, the Lions defense was among the worst units in the NFL during his time as the head coach. Looking at Patricia’s tenure should help everyone have a better appreciation for Caldwell’s time in Detroit.

It’s true that the Wisconsin native was never able to win a playoff game in his time at the helm, but Patricia couldn’t even finish a season with a winning record, so it looks like Detroit made a mistake on this one.

Keep in mind that before taking over the Lions, Caldwell led the Indianapolis Colts to the Super Bowl 44 in 2009. The ‘Horseshoe’ team ultimately dropped the game to the New Orleans Saints, and you could argue that having All-Pro quarterback Payton Manning at the helm is akin to entering a cheat code in your favorite videogame.

However, Caldwell has had success everywhere he’s gone and after his tenure in Indianapolis, he earned a Super Bowl Ring as the Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator in 2012. The Jaguars could sure hire him and his experience to help the team start winning on a consistent basis.
