. . Blaine Gabbert. 4. player. 52.

The Jacksonville Jaguars wanted these two to succeed.

We are chatting a little bit here, as David Caldwell inherited Blaine Gabbert. It was Gene Smith the one that drafted the Missouri quarterback. Back in the day, there was a legitimate debate about whom the Carolina Panthers should draft with 2011’s first overall pick.

At the time, analysts such as Michael Lombardi (now with The Athletic) and Mike Mayock, who’s currently serving as the Las Vegas Raiders general managers sincerely thought Gabbert was the better player. The ‘Jags’ found out the hard way that wasn’t the case and ended up trading him to the San Francisco 49ers after three years.

3. player. 52. . . . Mike Glennon

How low is the bar when Mike Glennon, who has started just two games in Jacksonville, is the third-best quarterback the team has acquired during David Caldwell’s tenure with the team? Quite low indeed.

The Jaguars signed Glennon in 2020 to a one-year $1,187,500 a few days before the 2020 season started. Looking back, it’s unlikely the team’s brass expected the veteran quarterback to see plenty of playing time. However, Jake Luton’s inefficiency and Gardner Minshew’s thumb injury forced him into the lineup. He played relatively well in Week 12 but was a mixed bag against the Minnesota Vikings. The fact he provides an upgrade over Minshew and Luton should be concerning.
