Jacksonville Jaguars: Rankings 6 best QBs in David Caldwell’s tenure as GM
These two looked like the Jacksonville Jaguars’ franchise QBs at one point.
Regardless of what you think of Gardner Minshew II, he did provide a spark for the Jaguars towards the end of the 2019 season. Even if the Washington State quarterback shined for just a small period of time as Jacksonville’s quarterback, he was bright.
Last season, he went 285-of-470 for 3,271 yards, 21 touchdowns, and six interceptions. Heading into the 2020 season, the organization gave him a legitimate chance to show he could become their franchise quarterback. However, he wasn’t able to recapture his 2019 magic and struggled before a thumb injury forced him out of the lineup.
Blake Bortles had a hard time landing on his feet in 2020 even though he had Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay’s endorsement. Nevertheless, it wasn’t always like that, and as recently as 2015, the quarterback was lighting up the scoreboard. Sure, most of his production came in garbage time, but it’s not often that you see a quarterback throw 35 touchdown passes in one season.
Although Bortles became a Fantasy Football darling, his production never translated into meaningful wins. The Jaguars didn’t care though and gave him a three-year $54 million in 2018, a decision they regretted almost right away. In retrospect, they shouldn’t have given that deal, but we will never forget that he helped us win our Fantasy league in 2015.
