Round 3, Pick 73: DaVon Hamilton, Defensive Tackle, Ohio St.

With their third-round pick, 73rd overall, the Jaguars selected DaVon Hamilton, defensive tackle, Ohio St. Hamilton is 6’4”, 320 lbs.

He had 28 tackles last year, 9.5 for loss, and registered six sacks. He’s big, space-eating defensive tackle, and was picked ahead of other defensive tackles that were rated similarly. And he’s strong against the run, which is exactly what this team was after to fill their greatest need in this year’s draft.

He’s another example of the value and needs meeting at the spot he was taken, and give the Jaguars another hit for this pick.

Round 4, Pick 116: Ben Bartch, Tackle, St. John’s (MINN)

Ben Bartch started his college career as a tight end his freshman and sophomore years. Before his junior year, he bulked up on protein shakes, added 25 lbs., and moved to tackle. That gained him the nickname “Mr. Smoothie”.

He added more weight before his senior year and dominated the competition. His time as a tight end gives him good foot movement and he takes pleasure in putting defensive linemen on their butts.

And he was picked lower than he was projected, so his value is good. Another hit here for the Jaguars, but Bartch will take time to develop.

Round 4, Pick 138: Josiah Scott, Cornerback, Michigan State

With their second pick in the fourth round, the Jags selected Josiah Scott, cornerback, Michigan State. By picking Henderson at No. 9 to start at one position, having Tre Herndon, and having signed free agent Rashaan Melvin, picking another cornerback at this spot is questionable.

They could have addressed other positions that needed backups or upgrades and there were several available. Scott may be a solid player and provide depth, but the Jags had other needs. This is a miss for the Jaguars as they could have filled another need.

Round 4, Pick 140: Shaquille Quarterman, Linebacker, Miami

With their third in the fourth round, the Jacksonville Jaguars grabbed Shaquille Quarterman, linebacker, Miami.

Another questionable pick, for the same reasons as I just stated, too many needs at other positions. The local kid, from Oakleaf High School, has a lot of work to become a starter for the team. I see this as another miss.
