Blake Bortles will finish with a 90+ passer rating: FICTION

I still believe in Bortles and think he has the tools to be a successful quarterback… but at this point I just want to see him do it in the regular season. This is the second season in a row that Bortles has looked like a superstar in the preseason and hasn’t transferred that consistency into the regular season, at least yet.

Bortles looked solid in the first half against the Panthers but the wheels fell off in the second half with his interception returned for a touchdown. Unfortunately he now has to face a team that did the same thing to him twice in one game last year.

Bortles only had one game with a passer rating higher than 90 as a rookie (96.4 against the Bengals), but that’s a mark he hits consistently in the preseason. That’s a metric he should shoot for on a weekly basis. I don’t see it happening this week against a staunch and opportunistic Dolphins defense.

Overall, I don’t see the Jaguars getting out of this game with a win if the offense doesn’t put together a solid performance. The Dolphins have more weapons around Tannehill than Cam Newton had and he knows how to get them the ball. It won’t be a high scoring affair, but there will be enough scoring to keep the game out of reach for the home team.

PREDICTION: Jaguars 13 – Dolphins 23
