QB Jeff Tuel Added to Jacksonville Jaguars Roster

Jeff Tuel isn’t a household name and he likely never will be. He is, however, a new addition to the Jacksonville Jaguars this offseason.

Tuel comes in and rookie Jake Waters is out. Such is life in the offseason of the NFL. Tuel is coming to the Jaguars from the Buffalo Bills, where he was waived last Friday.

So, why are we writing about a guy whose name may never even make it into the deepest of trivia? Because bringing in Tuel isn’t like bringing in another undrafted free agent. He is a two year veteran with one start under his belt. He’s somebody who could really turn out to be useful in evaluations, even if he ends up as nothing more than a camp arm. Other than that…well it’s pretty limited. He has over 300 yards to his name in two games played. His lone start was a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, though he did post a touchdown (to go with two interceptions) in that game.

He also has a connection with former Bills head coach and now Jags offensive line coach Doug Marrone as well as with Jags quarterbacks coach Nathaniel Hackett who was the offensive coordinator in Buffalo. He’s coming in with knowledge of what those two want from their quarterbacks this offseason and how he can implement it immediately.

As noted by Jags Senior Writer John Oehser, the team currently has four quarterbacks on its roster with the addition of Tuel. Blake Bortles and Chad Henne are now joined by Tuel and Stephen Morris.

It’s unlikely the Jaguars will need to carry a third quarterback like Jeff Tuel in 2015. Expect Bortles and Henne to be back at it going forward, but keep your eye out just in case Tuel somehow impresses enough to sneak his way onto the final roster.
