No. 1 head coach in Jacksonville Jaguars history: Tom Coughlin

As great as Doug Pederson was in 2022 and could be for years to come, Tom Coughlin is the best coach in Jaguars history. You could argue that Pederson has already won a Super Bowl when he was with the Philadelphia Eagles but Coughlin also has two championships of his own.

Putting aside Coughlin's two Super Bowl wins with the New York Giants, he also won a lot when he was in charge of the Jaguars. In just his second season, he took an expansion team, one that played their first game ever in 1995, to the AFC Championship.

They returned to the conference game in 1999 and made the playoffs for four straight years. However, you look at it, that's the winningest and most successful stretch in team history.

Coughlin had to walk the plank after going 6-10 in 2002 but he would return in 2017 as their vice president of football operations. He wasn't nearly as successful as he was as a head coach and his outdated methods demoralized players forced the Jags to let him go in 2019.

In retrospect, Coughlin's less-than-stellar time as the EVP didn't go the way he or the Jaguar envision. However, it shouldn't tarnish his legacy as the most successful head coach in team history, a title he'll hold until Pederson or someone else can get the Jags over the hump or surpass his accomplishments.
