Brian Thomas Jr. will have a better season than Rome Odunze and Malik Nabers

The Jaguars had a need at receiver after losing Calvin Ridley to the Tennessee Titans in free agency. Heading into the draft, there was chatter about them potentially moving up into the top 10 to take either Malik Nabers or Rome Odunze. In the end, they chose to move down and take Brian Thomas Jr. at No. 23. So far, the decision has gotten rave reviews.

While he wasn't as highly regarded as Odunze, Nabers or Marvin Harrison Jr., Thomas was also projected to go into the first round. His route-running and his release need refinement but he's wasted no time getting to work. The former LSU Tiger was a highlight in both rookie minicamp and Organized Team Activities. Based on his quick acclimation to the NFL, it wouldn't be shocking if he was an impact right off the bat.

What makes Thomas such an intriguing player is his ability to get deep. In Jacksonville, he should draw coverage away from fellow receivers Gabe Davis and Christian Kirk. Moreover, it will prevent opponents from stacking the box against the run, meaning that Travis Etienne should have more roon to run.

Going back to Thomas, he should also benefit from the presence of his teammates. With such a wide array of weapons, defenses won't be able to consistently roll coverage to the rookie receiver. This should allow him to put up good numbers.

Meanwhile, Malik Nabers will be catching passes from an underwhelming Daniel Jones. Even though he will make plays every now and then, the quarterback play will hinder the rookie's performance. On the other hand, Odunze will be catching passes from first-year passer Caleb Williams.

There's no doubt Williams can become a franchise quarterback but he'll need to make the adjustment to the NFL in 2024. Also, the Chicago Bears will spread the ball in 2024. With D.J. Moore and Keenan Allen in the fold, Williams won't have to force the ball to Nabers. This will be great for offense, but not so much for Odunze's output.

That said, Marvin Harrison Jr. should have the best season among rookie receivers. Not only is he the most talented of the bunch but the Arizona Cardinals don't have many weapons besides him and tight end Trey McBride. Expect Kyler Murray to look for the Ohio State product often in 2024.
