Jaguars rumors: Fans might have found GM Trent Baalke's burner on Twitter
• That account talks the way you would think it would
The Jacksonville Jaguars fall short of expectations in 2023. While there wasn't just one reason behind their failure to make the playoffs and win the AFC South, general manager Trent Baalke certainly played a part. If you ask him, though, it was the coaching staff's fault for not developing the players he drafted. And if you onto Twitter, you'll find an account that will side with him while routinely showering him with praise, maybe more than he deserves. This has fans asking if Baalke could be the man running the account.
Not long after Baalke held his end-of-the-season press conference, Jaguars fans started to talk about a Twitter account that showed unquestioned support for the embattled general manager, user @BroDawg4.
During his exchange with the local media, Baalke was asked why he didn't bolster the pass rush last year. He responded that he would like to know who was available. When the press corps brought up Leonard Floyd, Calais Campbell, and Jadeveon Clowney, among others, he said he didn't live in the past. Coincidentally, BrowDawg4 said last July they didn't need any of those guys.
In a similar exchange, BroDawg argues that the roster "wasn't awful" last year, seemingly backing up the moves or lack thereof Baalke made last year.
Now, this could all be just circumstantial that this could turn out to be just a random guy who happens to like Trent Baalke a lot. In the end, it is harmless banter in the best-case, concerning at the worst case because why would Trent Baalke spend so much time online trying to validate his decisions instead of actually, you know, working?
Burner or not, Jaguars GM Trent Baalke must get to work in 2024
General managers don't often get the spotlight but Trent Baalke has received lots of attention the last few weeks for a couple reasons. First, he's not holding himself accountable for not being able to replenish the roster. Second, he's trying to pin the blame on the coaching staff, something you will hardly ever see in a well-run organization.
While Baalke deserves credit for talking at length about his relationship with Doug Pederson and how it continues to be great, he needs to do his job in 2024 and stop being the source of friction. Not long ago, there were reports about him sitting during interviews to fill their defensive coordinator vacancy. Similarly, the news surfaced that he wasn't pleased with Press Taylor's performance as the Jaguars offensive coordinator.
Baalke disproved both reports. For the sake of argument, let's say he's right, why does chatter about friction with him and the coaching staff continue to pop off? All that noise doesn't paint a favorable picture of the Jaguars. If they want to get back to the playoffs and challenge the Houston Texans for the AFC South title, they need to get to work on the offseason and stop those kinds of reports from making the news.
It will also help if Trent Baalke stops using Twitter if he and BroDawg are indeed the same person.
