Jaguars LB Yasir Abdullah could be a cut candidate going into the summer

Dubbed a potential draft steal, Yasir Abdullah was a non-factor in his rookie season. Expected to earn a role in the Jaguars' pass-rush rotation, the former Louisville Cardinals was inactive for several games and ended the year with just one paltry total tackle.

One reason Abdullah failed to crack the rotation was his lack of size to play on the edge in the NFL. Not surprisingly, the team's brass is moving him to strong linebacker in the hopes that he'll be able to make an impact.

Head coach Doug Pederson told the media on the first day of OTAs that Abdullah could still get pass-rush opportunities. However, the coaching staff wouldn't have switched him to linebacker if they thought he could consistently get after the quarterback.

Unless Abdullah quickly adjusts to his new position, he may have trouble earning a roster spot in 2024.

Jaguars OL Tyler Shatley could be a cut candidate going into the summer

An adage says that all good things must come to an end. It could certainly apply to OG Tyler Shatley in 2024. Having signed with the Jags as an undrafted free agent in 2014, he's currently their longest-tenured player. He became a free agent in March, spent a few weeks unsigned but was eventually re-signed.

Shatley is a grizzled veteran who provides valuable depth. Throughout his 11th-year stint, he's appeared in 145 starts with 51 starts, with 36 of them coming the last four years. However, the former Clemson Tiger hasn't been great when he's needed to step up over long stretches. That's probably why he had to wait to sign in the offseason.

It's possible that the Jags only brought Shatley back as insurance. Sophomore Cooper Hodges could make a strong push for the primary backup role at offensive guard. Similarly, rookie Steven Jones has the tools to potentially compete for a roster spot. Add the presence of Cole Van Lanen and Shatley could be a victim of the numbers games.
