Former Jaguars CB Chris Claybrooks remains surprisingly unsigned

Cornerback Chris Claybrooks was a great finding in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Right out of the gate, Claybrooks moved his way up the depth chart and helped the Jags however he could. Even though he wasn't a starting-caliber player, he stepped up whenever injuries struck the secondary. In his rookie season alone, he played 42 percent of the team's snaps. That's a considerable amount of time, especially for a first-year player.

Claybrooks' workload decreased a bit the following two seasons but he remained a valuable depth piece. He was poised to once again contribute in 2023 but legal issues landed him in the Commissioner's Exempt List. The former Memphis Tiger spent the season away from football and became a free agent in March. So far, there haven't been updates on his status and there's a chance that clubs will steer away from him until they get more data.

Former Jaguars RS Jamal Agnew remains surprisingly unsigned

Back in 2021, the Jaguars refrained from making any splash acquisitions in free agency. However, they did lock up a handful of players who went on to fill in key roles. One of them was return specialist Jamal Agnew.

At the time, Urban Meyer was the head coach and made it clear when he was hired that he was going to put an emphasis on special teams. True to his work, the Jags made Agnew one of the best-paid return specialists in the NFL. Right off the bat, they got lots of bang for their buck.

In the first three weeks of 2021, Agnew had two returns for touchdowns, one in a kickoff and another one off a missed field goal. Later in the season, he made several big plays on offense, including a 66-yard touchdown run against the divison foe Indianapolis Colts.

Injuries forced Agnew to have a bigger role on offense in 2022. He came through, hauling in 23 receptions for 187 yards with three touchdowns. Unfortunately, injuries robbed the former San Diego Torero of his effectiveness last year and he wasn't nearly as productive on special teams or the offense.

Free agency came, and the Jaguars let Agnew walk and replaced him with Devin Duvernay, a two-time Pro Bowl nod. Agnew should probably have some gas left but teams could be wondering if injuries have taken away some of his effectiveness.
