4 things the Jacksonville Jaguars should be thankful for this Thanksgiving
• Here are four that give fans of the Jaguars a reason to be greatful
1. Thing to be thankful for: The Jaguars are built to have sustained success
For a while, Jaguars fans held tight onto the 2017 season, and it's easy to see why, it was their lone winning season since 2007. Another reason it was revered was that Jacksonville came crashing down the following year, and they kept getting worse with each passing season. By 2020, they had hit rock bottom. 2021 was supposed to mark a turnaround but the Jags once again fell short of expectations.
It wasn't until Doug Pederson arrived in 2022 that the Jaguars managed to right the ship. He got to work right away, helping players heal from the Urban Meyer debacle, and establishing a healthy (and winning) culture from the get-go. It took the team a bit of time to hit their stride but they finished the 2022 season strong, and managed to win their first division title, and make the playoffs, something they had failed to do since 2017.
At 7-3, the Jaguars proved in 2023 that they're not a one-year wonder. They have a realistic chance to repeat as division champs and qualify for the playoffs for the second straight year. Furthermore, it's hard to see them come crashing down in 2024. In fact, they should be a perineal contender for years to come with head coach Doug Pederson and Trevor Lawrence at the helm.
Say what you want about general manager Trent Baalke, but he's also contributed to the teams' good fortunes the past two years. His track record isn't perfect and the jury is still out in his tenure with Jacksonville, but there's no doubt he's helped the Jaguars get back from the place they were a few years ago. Together, the three should lead the Jaguars to many more winning seasons.
