3. Cole Van Lanen, offensive guard

You know the Jaguars' brass isn't particularly high on offensive guard Cole Van Lanen when they refused to give him a chance in 2023 despite the fact that they struggled at the line of scrimmage. Technically, Van Lanen did play on nine percent of the team's offensive snaps but that was mostly because they had no other options available.

A sixth-round pick by the Green Bay Packers in 2021, Van Lanen landed in Jacksonville via trade before the start of the 2022 season. At the time of the deal, the Packers had a surplus on the interior offensive line and the Jags needed depth inside, so it made sense for both parties.

Unfortunately, Cole Van Lanen didn't do much of note in his first season with the Jags, appearing on just 18 offensive snaps. Last year, the former Wisconsin Badger was buried on the depth chart behind Ben Bartch, Blake Hance, Tyler Shatley, and Chandler Brewer. While Shatley and Bartch are gone, it's hard to see him getting ahead of Brewer or Hance. On top of that, the Jags brought back Ezra Cleveland and could add another lineman in the draft, leaving no space for Van Lanen.

Maybe this is the year Cole Van Lanen puts it all together. After all, some players need more time than others to hit their stride. Then again, he's not done enough over the past two years to make you think he'll earn a significant role on offense in 2024, at least not in Jacksonville.
