4 Jacksonville Jaguars who will keep fostering a positive culture in 2023
No. 2 Jaguars member who will foster a positive culture: Trevor Lawrence, QB
Trevor Lawrence's first two years in the league have been in the league and heading into the NFL season, he expects to build more consistency. See, the former Clemson Tiger got the "can't miss prospect" label coming out of college. And once the Jaguars clinched the No. 1 overall pick in the draft, there was a 99.9 percent chance they were going to take him.
Hindsight is 20/20 but instead of getting Lawrence the best possible supporting cast and a coach that could squeeze every ounce of talent out of him, they put him in a position to fail by hiring Urban Meyer.
But in spite of Meyer's incompetence, Lawrence showed flashes of the talent that earned him the moniker of best quarterback prospect to enter the NFL since Andrew Luck. Realizing they needed to get their franchise quarterback help, the Jaguars hired Doug Pederson and got him an arsenal of weapons last year.
Lawrence took a few lumps and didn't get hit his stride right away but once he did, he put on display the talent that got him the spotlight when he won the National Championship in 2018. Keep in mind that Lawrence had to do it while having to first deal with and later heal from the Meyer debacle.
During that healing process, Lawrence was the leader of the team, often meeting with the local media and speaking on behalf of his teammates. Now that he's improved as a player, he can focus on becoming an even bigger locker-room leader. After all, the Jaguars are his team and they're going to go as far as he goes. He might as well, set the pace.
