The Jaguars don't get enough production from their pass-rush rotation

There's no doubt that the Jaguars had the most productive pass-rush tandem in the NFL last year, even if Pro Football Focus doesn't agree. Josh Allen and Travon Walker combined for 27.5 sacks between the two in 2023. Unfortunately, the rest of the rotation was underwhelming.

Roy Robertson-Harrison's three sacks ranked in Jacksonville, and former first-round pick K'Lavon Chaisson mustered just two. To nobody's surprise, Chaisson is gone after an unremarkable four-year stint with the Jags but you could make the case that the front office didn't do enough to replace him. They signed Trevis Gipson in the offseason but he's a wild card heading into the regular season.

Gipson, a fourth-round pick by the Chicago Bears in 2020, logged seven sacks in 2021 but managed just three the following year. He was cut before the start of the 2023 season and spent an uneventful stint with the Tennessee Titans. The Tulsa product expects to prove himself in Jacksonville and has a couple things going in his favor.

For starters, Gipson will be reunited with outside linebackers coach Bill Shuey, his position coach when he had a breakout season in Jacksonville. Furthermore, he'll be playing in a 4-3 scheme, where he's at his best. Simply put, he's in a position to enjoy a career revival. On the other hand, the pass rush could be vulnerable if he fails to show out.

Other than Gipson, there's not much depth behind Walker and Allen. For the sake of argument, let's say that Gipson does deliver, what will happen if either Walker or Allen misses time? Who would step up? The Jaguars better hope they both stay healthy. Otherwise, their ability to get after the quarterback could be severely compromised next season.
