The Jacksonville Jaguars are going into 2026 with high hopes after they went 13-4 in Liam Coen's first season as the head coach. Now it's all about taking that next step forward and that means finding quality players to fill out the 53 53-manman roster.

The Jags had a handful of OTA sessions take place before mandatory minicamp went down from June 9 to June 11. That allowed players to get on the practice field. One of the biggest standouts was cornerback Jabbar Muhammad.

John Shipley of Sports Illustrated released an article discussing the winners and losers of minicamp. He made it a point to call out Muhammad.

"If there is any player who has done himself favors this offseason, it is Jabbar Muhammad. The second-year cornerback looks like he is genuinely ready to fight for a spot on the 53-man roster. Muhammad had to have recorded 10+ pass breakups over the offseason program, and he nabbed two cornerbacks during the three-day minicamp. He is the defensive offseason MVP right now," Shipley wrote.

While there are a few OTA practices that are scheduled from June 15-17, Muhammad is doing himself some huge favors and will force the coaching staff into keeping him on the active roster if he continues to play at this level this summer.

Jabbar Muhammad has been a standout for Jaguars this offseason

Jabbar Muhammad getting this recognition isn't a surprise to fans, as he has been a common name talked about over the last few weeks. Defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile spoke about Muhammad and gave him praise for his improvement thus far.

Muhammad was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2025 and spent last season on the practice squad. The team signed him to a reserve/future contract in January, and the work he put in this offseason has shown big time.

Jacksonville will go into the season with Montaric Brown, Travis Hunter, Jarrian Jones and Jourdan Lewis as their top four DBs, but there are spots available — maybe two, at least one — for depth pieces. And Muhammad is making a case for him to be at the top of the list.

Shipley did add that other defensive backs like Devon Marshall, Christian Braswell, Preston Hodge, and Keni-H Lovely have also stood out, but Muhammad has been a constant for weeks now. He's consistently finding his way around the football and is getting his hands to cause pass deflections/interceptions.

When the pads come on, it'll add another dynamic to practice, but if Muhammad continues to play at this level, there's no way that Jacksonville will let him go. He's a player who has taken the opportunity of being signed by an NFL team and is doing everything in his power to stick out.

Teams are always looking for quality depth, and from the looks of it, he may be exactly that. Muhammad is a name to watch over the next few weeks, and if this level of play continues, he'll for sure be on the active roster come Week 1.
