The Jacksonville Jaguars appeared to have a huge question mark at cornerback early in 2026. However, the position could turn out to be a strength next season. Sure, Greg Newsome bolted for the New York Giants in free agency, but Montaric Brown returned on a three-year deal. Moreover, two-way star Travis Hunter will tentatively play defense full-time next season.

With Jourdan Lewis and Jarrian Jones also in the mix, the Jags are seemingly set at corner. That said, they could have one spot (maybe two) up for grabs, and sophomore Jabbar Muhammad is making a strong push to seize it.

Just one day after Liam Coen talked about how much Muhammad has grown dating back to his rookie year, defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile heaped praise on the second-year corner.

Anthony Campanile has watched Jabbar Muhammad rise at Jaguars minicamp

Anthony Campanile met with the local media after Day 2 of mandatory mincamp. He stated that Jabbar Muhammad has improved substantially, noting that he's put a big emphasis on his approach to football and overall technique.

"I think he's improved a ton, but just watching him, he's really been super detailed with his technique. I think that's one of the things that shows up," Campanile said about Muhammad (9:21 mark). "Very, very deliberate, like in the way that he's practicing, and I think that that's created some takeaways for him, and making some plays on the ball. He just always seems to be near the action right now, so he's really done a great job and improved the punch this spring."

On a related note, John Shipley of Sports Illustrated noted that Muhammad once again stood out in practice, registering a handful of passes defensed and an interception just one day after registering his first pick of the offseason program.

Muhammad signed with the Jags as an undrafted free agent in 2025. He spent his rookie season on the practice squad and wasn't elevated to the roster even once. However, the former Oregon Duck has spent the offseason honing his craft, and based on the comments Campanile made, his progress is noticeable.

Jabbar Muhammad is trending toward making the Jaguars 53-man roster

The regular season is still a few months away, but it feels like Jabbar Muhammad will make the 53-man roster. Granted, he has to keep making plays and hold off veteran Christian Braswell, Davon Marshall, and Preston Hodge. However, the DeSoto, Texas native should feel good about his odds of getting the nod.

One thing that could ultimately help Muhammad get the nod is that he has the versatility to line up at nickel or the boundaries. Sure, he'll probably be CB5 behind Travis Hunter, Montaric Brown, Jourdan Lewis, and Jarrian Jones. However, he's showing that he'll be ready if he's thrust into action.

Jabbar Muhammad probably won't get the spotlight often in 2026, but there's no doubt that he's come a long way. And Anthony Campanile just confirmed that the Jags are aware.
