The Jacksonville Jaguars seemingly have a surplus at cornerback, even though they didn't take any big swings at the position in the offseason aside from re-signing Montaric Brown in free agency.

Travis Hunter will tentatively play corner full-time next season and will line up opposite Brown in the boundaries. Jourdan Lewis and Jarrian Jones will mostly play nickel but could also line up outside if needed. That's four players who could potentially start for the Jags, but the depth behind him is pretty good.

Christian Braswell, Jabbar Muhammad, and rookies Davon Marshall and Preston Hodge are making a bid for a roster spot. All of them have a legitimate chance to get the nod. But of the bunch, Muhammad has stood out the most, and he's making the most of his chances at mandatory minicamp.

Jabbar Muhammad is watching his stock soar at Jaguars mandatory minicamp

John Shipley of Sports Illustrated reported that Jabbar Muhammad registered a pair of passes defensed and also picked up quarterback Nick Mullens.

When asked about Muhammad, Jaguars head coach Liam Coen heaped praise on him, pointing out that the second-year corner has shown notable improvement since his rookie campaign.

"I think Jabbar, I mean, he's made a ton of plays out here," Coen said (3:08 mark). "You could argue for most improved for Jabbar, really over the last year, a guy that really spent the majority of the time last year on practice, you know, on the practice squad and given show team reps, and he's made so many plays out here, I think we're excited about what he's able to do."

Muhammad signed as an undrafted free agent with the Jaguars in 2025. He spent his rookie season honing his skills on the practice squad. Specifically, he had to refine his footwork. Fast forward to 2026, and it seems like the former Oregon Duck has made enough strides to make the 53-man roster next season.

Jabbar Muhammad faces competition to make the Jaguars 53-man roster

Jabbar Muhammad has his work cut out for him to make the team. However, he made a strong impression at Organized Team Activities and appears to have an early edge over Christian Braswell, Davon Marshall, Preston Hodge, and Keni-H Lovely. That said, Hodges has also flashed potential, so the competition is from over and will probably last until the preseason finale.

As noted before, Travis Hunter, Jarrian Jones, Jourdan Lewis, and Montaric Brown are virtual locks to make the roster. That would leave one or two spots up for grabs. Circling back to Muhammad, one huge thing going in his favor is that he has the versatility to play in the boundaries and inside. Couple that with his strong start to minicamp, and he could be in the front seat to seize a roster spot.

Jabbar Muhammad may lack ideal height and isn't probably the fastest corner. But that hasn't prevented him from making an impact for the Jaguars this offseason.
